19-Year-Old Janja Garnbret Wins the World Cup in Sport Climbing for the Third Time in a Row
19-year-old Slovene Janja Garnbret has won the World Cup in Sport Climbing (lead climbing category) for the fourth time in her career and the third time in a row. The decisive stage of the competition was held in Wujiang (China).
Competitions were held outdoors on an artificial wall. Due to the difficult weather conditions, the results of the finals were annulled and the semi-final indicators were considered as the final ones. This meant that Janja Garnbret won at that stage. The main rival of the young Slovene was the current world champion from Austria, Jessica Pilz.
In the final table, Janja Garnbret was 90 points ahead of Jessica Pilz, who took only the third place. The second place was won by the Korean Ja-in Kim. Thus, the final stage of the World Cup in Xiamen (China), which takes place on 26–27 October 2018, has become a simple formality. Janja Garnbret became inaccessible to rivals and won a flawless victory ahead of schedule.
It is worth noting that this season, Janja Garnbret has occupied only the first and the second places during all stages of the World Cup. Her brilliant success was supplemented by compatriots Mia Krampl and Tjaša Kalan, who shared the final sixth place, which is currently their greatest career achievement.
