A Bike Bus to Run Between Slovenia and Austria in July – August

In July and August 2019, the Štrekna bus, a bike bus that will improve transport links between the two countries, will go from Velenje to the Austrian city of Lavamünd (Carinthia region). The new bus route is launched as the result of the successful implementation of the international Trans-borders project. The Štrekna bus will connect Velenje, settlements of the Mislinja and Drava Valleys with Austrian Carinthia. The bike bus is named after the popular bicycle route Štrekna, which is considered one of the most comfortable in Slovenia and connects the Slovenian and Austrian Carinthia regions.

A ticket for a bike bus worth 6.7 EUR can be purchased in Velenje and Slovenj Gradec. Travel to Dravograd will cost 4.7 EUR. Transportation of bicycles is free. Travel time from Velenje to Lavamünd (Slovene: Labot) is 1 hour and 20 minutes.

On Saturdays, the Štrekna bus will be connected with the bike train Maribor – Bleiburg and will allow the development of cycle tourism on both sides of the Austrian-Slovenian border. The bike train runs along the route on weekends and holidays, and the bike bus runs twice a day every day.

It should be added that the bike bus and the bike train will transport passengers until 31 August 2019.
