A Monument to Alexander Pushkin Is Unveiled in Ljubljana
A bronze bust of the famous Russian poet, writer and playwright was installed in the North Park (within the area of the Železna Street). This is the first monument to Alexander Pushkin in Slovenia.
During the official ceremony of monument unveiling in Ljubljana, the Russian ambassador Doku Zavgajev notes that Pushkin has been living in the hearts of many Slovenes for more than one generation. According to him, the bronze bust strengthens intercultural cooperation and friendship between Russia and Slovenia.
The Forum of Slavic Cultures, the municipality of Ljubljana, the Russian Embassy in Slovenia, the State Duma Committee on International Affairs as well as the Russian Centre of Science and Culture organized the unveiling ceremony of the monument.
Installation of monument to the poet is part of the ‘Great Teachers of Mankind’ project held by the Russian Foundation “Dialogue of Cultures — Single World.” The author of the bronze bust is the sculptor Alexey Leonov.
The unveiling ceremony ended with Alexander Pushkin’s “Romance” performed by the laureate of all-Russian and international contests Anna Mogutina. Students of the Poljane Gymnasium and the Bežigrad Gymnasium recited poet’s verses in Russian and Slovenian.
