A Network of Secondary Schools to Be Expanded in Slovenia with the Addition of New Study Programmes in the 2018/2019 Academic Year
In the 2018/2019 academic year, more than 18,000 students will start studying in secondary schools in Slovenia. At the same time, the number of graduates in the country’s schools in the current academic year will be one thousand less. The total number of licensed places in secondary schools of the country is 23,644 (last year, the figure was 23,440). This was reported in the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports of Slovenia.
The Ministry adds that in the new academic year, some schools plan to open new study programmes on secondary vocational education, such as Pharmaceutical Production Process Engineer (Educational Centre in Ravne na Koroškem); Veterinarian Process Engineer (Education Centre in Šentjur); Electrician (Gymnasium, School for Electricians and Marine Specialists in Piran); Mechatronics Engineer (Secondary Vocational School in Koper); and Gymnasium–Sports Department (Gymnasium in Brežice). Besides, from the new academic year, the Educational Centre in Celje will launch the Modeller study programme, the attendance of which will be available for students with a complete secondary education. It should be noted that these programmes would be provided only in the case of timely enrolment of the required number of students.
In the 2018/2019 academic year, the network of schools and study programmes that include apprenticeships will expand. Applicants or pupils of basic schools who have changed their initial decision to enrol in a secondary school can apply to another school or study programme. Schools will accept applications until 25 April 2018, taking into account the already existing number of previously submitted applications. After the deadline, acceptance of applications will be terminated, except for cases when applicants for valid reasons could not apply in a timely manner.
Applicants who submitted applications will be notified on possible restrictions regarding the admission to certain programmes no later than on 6 June 2018. Secondary schools will accept applications and conduct an enrolment campaign, until they have vacant places, through 31 August 2018.
