A Parade of School-leavers with the Traditional Quadrille Performance Takes Part in the Cities of Slovenia

On Thursday, 17 May 2018, leavers of the country’s secondary schools took part in the 18th traditional Alumni Parade, during which the “Street Fours (Quadrille)” event took place. The event was organized by the Urška Pro Dance School and the Dance Association of Slovenia.

In Maribor, 1,650 alumni took part in the event held at the Main Square (Glavni Trg). The local organizer of the event was the Salsero Dance School. President of the country Borut Pahor addressed the youth with a salutatory word. The event was held simultaneously in Ljubljana, Maribor, Ljutomer, Kočevje, Novo Mesto, Nova Gorica, Postojna, Koper, Trbovlje, Murska Sobota and Ptuj.

In Ljubljana, schoolchildren in orange and black T-shirts danced quadrille in the Slovenska Street. The mayor of the city Zoran Janković addressed the children with a salutatory word. The driving event attracted the attention of numerous passers-by.

It should be noted that the tradition to dance quadrille on city streets to mark the day of school leaving appeared in 2001. One of its founders was the current president of the country, at that time the Speaker of Parliament, Borut Pahor.
