A Slovenian Hockey Player Anže Kopitar Is the Captain of the Los Angeles Kings
For nine consecutive years, he has been the best Kings’ scorer (an informal respectful nickname of the Los Angeles Kings team — a translator’s note).
The Los Angeles Kings team from the NHL League has a new captain. From now, the most successful and famous Slovenian hockey player Anže Kopitar will wear the captain’s uniform instead of Justin Brown.
Anže Kopitar, who this year will celebrate his 29th birthday, starts his 11th season in the prestigious NHL Hockey League. During his entire sports career, a native of the Hrušica settlement has been playing in the world’s most powerful hockey league for the Los Angeles Kings, with whom he won the Stanley Cup twice. The hockey player entered the team in 2005. At first, he was a reserve player. In 2008, he became the team’s vice-captain.
Justin Brown was his predecessor during the previous record-breaking 8 years. Earlier, the best hockey player of ever known Wayne Gretzky had been the Kings’ captain for seven years. Now, he is the 14th captain in the history of the Kings. In the main part of the NHL season, he spent 764 games and scored 684 points. This is the sixth result in the history of the Los Angeles team. The statistics of his performances in the final part of the season — 64 points in 75 games — is even more successful. This is the third result in the history of the Kings.
In January 2016, Anže Kopitar extended his contract with the Kings for another eight seasons. In the last season, the hockey player scored 25 goals and performed 49 successful assists. Due to his 75 points, Anže Kopitar has been the best team’s player for nine years in a row. This figure is the record-breaking one for the Los Angeles Kings team.
