A Student Charitable Track-and-field Event to Be Held in Ljubljana

On Tuesday, 22 May 2018, the 25th traditional student charitable track-and-field event “25. Decathlon študentski tek na grad” will take place in Ljubljana. The route will pass through the city’s streets from Prešeren Square to Ljubljana Castle. The charity event, under the slogan “I Am a Student and I Help”, in collaboration with the Mission of Caritas Foundation in Slovenia aims at collecting food and hygiene products for distressed Slovenian families.

“Študentski tek na grad” is the only free mass track-and-field event in Ljubljana. It will take place in two categories: recreation (without time measurement) and competition (with time measurement). Registration in the second category continues until Sunday, 20 May. The application for participation in the first, recreational, category can be submitted on the day of the race at the Prešeren Square from 04:30 p.m. to 06:00 p.m.

The novelty of the current event is the introduction of an additional competitive category only for schoolchildren. This year, the Decathlon Ljubljana Company has traditionally provided a significant prize fund: winners of 1st–3rd places in their categories with time measurement will receive coupons for 50 euros, which can be exchanged in the Decathlon Ljubljana store. Besides, this year the company will also award the most original team of 10 people with bonuses worth 500 euros for purchases at the Decathlon Ljubljana store. The first 1,500 participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt with the “25. Decathlon študentski tek na grad” inscription.

The “Študentski tek na grad” event is aimed at popularizing movement and active way of life. Its participants popularize running as the most accessible form of sports motor activity. Each year, 1,500–2,000 people participate in this event.

The organizers of the event are the Municipality of Ljubljana, the Caritas Slovenia Foundation, the Slovenian Sports Union, the Sports Foundation, ARC-Kranj d.o.o., Timing Ljubljana, Športni dnevnih EkipaSN, radio Val 202, ŠKL Centre and Decathlon Ljubljana d.o.o.
