A Student of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Ljubljana Became a Finalist of the Prestigious Contest “Stanislav Libensky Glass Award 2016”
Kristina Drnovšek, a student of the “Special Design/Glass” study program of the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Ljubljana with her diploma project “An Unbearable Lightness of Wearing Glass Shoes” is among the finalists of one of the biggest international glass objects design contests “Stanislav Libensky Glass Award 2016”.
Stanislav Libenský Award is the only international contest in the field of art and design of glass objects intended exclusively for young graduate students of similar academic programs. Since 2009 and until today, the graduates of more than 40 world universities have attended this contest.
Thus, Kristina Drnovšek is one of the best young designers throughout the world, who this year has completed her studies on the “Glass Design” program. Her diploma project “An Unbearable Lightness of Wearing Glass Shoes,” which was written in the 2015/2016 academic year under the guidance of Professor Master Tanje Pak, demonstrates two different pairs of glass shoes. The first pair is a part of the artistic spatial arrangement, and the second is a pair of practical leather shoes with glass heels. Together with the works by other finalists, they will be displayed from 15 September to 14 November 2016 in the DOX Centre for Contemporary Arts in Prague. The announcement of laureates will take place during the ceremonial opening of the exhibition on 14 September 2016.
Thanks to the Kristina Drnovšek’s achievement, the students of the “Special Design” program from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Ljubljana have managed to declare themselves for the third consecutive year. For more than a year, the success and international reputation of the students of this study program have been confirmed at the biggest exhibition of glass objects, for example, on the E-merge Bullseye in the United States, the European Glass Context in Denmark, and the Zwiesel International Glass Award in Germany.
