A Student of the University of Nova Gorica Is Awarded the Fanny Haussmann Prize at a Poetry Contest

Maruša Mugerli Lavrenčič, a student of the Humanistics study programme at the Faculty of Postgraduate Education of the University of Nova Gorica, was awarded the Fanny Haussmann Prize named after the first Slovenian poetess of German origin. The awarding took place in the Novo Celje Mansion, where Fanny Haussmann once lived, at the end of September 2019.

The award was first established in 2018 by the Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism of the Municipality of Žalec on the occasion of the poetess’s 200th birthday.

The contest was attended by 52 young poets. Contestants presented their previously unpublished verses on arbitrary topics in the Slovenian language.
