Acting President Borut Pahor Is Re-elected to a Second Term
According to preliminary data (99% of processed ballots), 52.94% of electors voted for Borut Pahor, and 47.06% for Marjan Šarec. The turnout of voters was 41.74%. Borut Pahor was ahead of Marjan Šarec by more than 41,500 votes.
The inauguration ceremony will take place on 23 December after taking the oath in Parliament.
Borut Pahor began his career in his student years and at the age of 26 became the youngest member of the Central Committee of the Communists Union of Slovenia. Later, he was one of the leaders of the renewed Communist Party. Aftrwards, Pahor joined the Social Democratic Party, which he headed in 1997. Then he was elected as the Speaker of Parliament, where he acquired a solid political experience.
Five years ago, in the second round of presidential elections, almost 490 thousand electors voted for him. In 2017, he received almost 100 thousand votes less in the second round of elections.
