Announcement of the Main Exhibitions in the National Museum for 2018

One of the central exhibitions of 2018 will open in the National Museum on 23 February, ten years after the death of former President Janez Drnovšek. It is will be devoted to the three periods of the statesman’s life: the period of working as the Chairman of the Presidium of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, the period of working as the Prime Minister in four governments, when Slovenia joined NATO and the EU, as well as the period when Drnovšek was the President of the country. A special symposium will also be dedicated to his activities.

In early May, the National Museum will open an exhibition ‘Shaping the Future’, devoted to modern trends in the design of ceramics. The exhibition will introduce visitors to the modern technologies for manufacture of ceramic products.

In October, the museum will launch the “100 Years to the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs” (in Slovene: 100 let Države Slovencev, Hrvatov in Srbov (1918–2018)) exhibition. The exhibition is dedicated to the events that took place at the end of the First World War, the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and the foundation of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs.

Besides, in 2018, the UNICUM exposition of ceramics and an exhibition timed to the 100th anniversary of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs foundation will start working.

In mid-November, an exhibition dedicated to the work of specialists in conservation and restoration of objects will begin. The exhibition “In Good Hands: the 60th Anniversary of the Conservation and Restoration Department of the National Museum of Slovenia” (in Slovenian: V dobrih rokah, 60 let ododelka za konserviranje in restavriranje Narodnega muzeja Slovenije) will introduce the public to the work of the oldest in this sphere institution in Slovenia.

In December, an exhibition of selected exhibits from the numismatic collections of the National Museum will finish the year. The organisers are trying to show that money is not only a means of payment and exchange, but also (in different versions) a unique artwork.
