A new water park under the original name Hopslandija will be built in Žalec (Savinjska region) in the next 4 years. The first phase of work (infrastructure construction) is estimated at 1.3 million euros. This was reported by the city administration.
Žalec has never lacked bold tourism ideas. The list of creative projects is not limited to the fountain of beer only. Launching of a modern water park is on the agenda. According to the Mayor of the city, Janko Kos, due to the ban on swimming in the lake in Vrbje (in order to preserve the local fauna), there is a need to arrange an originally designed open water park with tents for glamping, resort houses and all relevant communications.
The first stage of work under the Hopslandija project involves the development of tourism infrastructure, parking lots, sidewalks, and lighting. At the second stage, it is planned to build a swimming pool and an administrative building. The plans of the Mayor’s Office include landscaping of the nearby territory (planting fruit trees and shrubs), expanding parking lots for camping cars, but, first of all, improving the municipal infrastructure.
By the way, the land plot for the water park with an area of 4 hectares was previously used by local residents to dispose of household waste.
It is worth noting that the local beer fountain, opened in September 2016, is annually visited by over 110 thousand tourists.
