Article by the Nova Gorica University Students in an International Scientific Journal

The “Marine Pollution Bulletin” scientific journal has published the results of the study on the microplastics concentration in the Slovenian territorial waters, which was held at the University of Nova Gorica in 2013–2015.

The students of the “Environment” Bachelor’s program from the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Tine Bizjak, Urban Česnik, Tamara Gajšt, Tjaša Grivec and Urša Pipan, conducted a study under the leadership of Assistant Professor. Dr. Andrej Kržan and the ecologist Andrej Palatinus.

Within 20 months, they were taking samples of the sea surface in 17 sites and found the highest average concentration of microplastics – 406,000 particles/km2, which eventually changes its composition and location on the water surface.
