Cuisine of Slovenia’s Regions: Čoco – Cherry Puffs
Cooking time – 60 minutes.
Ingredients for 10 puffs
- 250 g frozen cherries (or strawberries, wild berries, raspberries – to taste),
- 2 tbsp brown sugar,
- 2 tbsp starch,
- 50 mL water,
- 100 g chocolate chips,
- 2 layers (weighing 275 g each) of already rolled puff pastry,
- 1 egg for topping.
Mix the fruit with sugar and put on a slow fire, so that the sugar is partially dissolved, and cherry gives the juice. Add a mixture of 2 tbsp of starch and 50 mL of cold water, mix and cook for 4–5 minutes. Set aside and allow to cool. Meanwhile, the mixture will thicken.
Cut each layer of puff pastry into rectangles of 11.5 x 8 cm. You will receive two rows of 10 rectangles.
Put 1 tbsp of filling, which you then need to sprinkle with chocolate chips, on each rectangle in the bottom row. Top the edges of the pastry with beaten egg. Cover the filled rectangles from the bottom row with the empty rectangles from the top row. Close the edges well. Top the puffs with beaten egg.
Put them on the baking parchment and cook in a low baking sheet at 200 ºC for 15 minutes (in a preheated usual oven).
Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
