Cuisine of Slovenia’s Regions: Potato Pie – Kljukuša
Cooking time: 30 minutes.
- 250 g flour,
- 6 small potatoes,
- 1 egg,
- 1 onion,
- 400 mL milk,
- 1 sachet of baking powder,
- 80 g vegetable oil,
- seasonings (salt, parsley, Vegeta).
Peel potatoes, wash and cut them into small pieces. Chop finely the onion and mix with the potatoes. Add one egg, vegetable oil and seasonings to taste. Mix the mixture with milk and then slowly add the flour previously mixed with baking powder. Mix all well.
Preheat oven to 250 ºС.
Put the mass into a greased baking sheet making sure that the dough is not too thick. Bake until golden brown. Then remove from the oven, cut into slices and pour with melted butter. Cover with a kitchen towel and leave for a few minutes.
If necessary, the amount of milk can be reduced – the mass should be slightly denser than for pancakes. If desired, you can add pieces of meat (chicken, turkey) to the pie. The pieces of meat must first be slightly fried in vegetable oil, and then just put on the top of the dough in the baking sheet. Instead of the melted butter gravy, you can use vegetable oil, in which the meat was fried, with about 10 mL of hot water or milk.
