Day of Slovenian Food Products Is Celebrated on 17 November
On 17 November, a traditional Slovenian breakfast was cooked in all kindergartens, schools and other educational institutions of the country. It included bread, butter, honey, milk, apples or other fruit. Last year, more than 264 thousand children ate traditional breakfast.
The Day of Slovenian Food Products appeared five years ago and was aimed at popularizing healthy lifestyle. Every year the holiday is celebrated on the third Friday of November. In some schools and kindergartens, the Day of Natural Science is also held on this day.
The celebration of the Day of Slovenian Food Products and the tradition of cooking breakfast each year gain new “supporters”. In 2017, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment Protection joined the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports. The project also has such partners as the Beekeeping Union, the Centre for Education, the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry, the Association of Cooperative Organizations, the Chamber of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Chamber of Farming and Food, the Association of Horticulture Societies, as well as the National Institute of Public Health.
The Ministry of Agriculture urged kindergartens, schools and other educational institutions to fill out a questionnaire on how they celebrate the Day of Slovenian Food Products. Based on the answers, it is planned to develop an electronic catalogue of best practices.
