Domžale Defeats the German Freiburg in the Europa League
The Slovenian football club scored two goals in the second leg of the third qualifying round.
During the first match in Germany, Domžale lost to the opponent with a score of 0:1. However, during the last meeting they knocked out Freiburg (the seventh club of the Bundesliga) from the Europa League.
In the first half, despite the dynamic game, both teams kept their gates under protection. After a break, in the 50th minute of the match, the Simon Rožman’s trainees went ahead. In his penalty box, Matija Širok violated the rules by stopping Caglar Söyüncü, and the Belgian referee Alexandre Boucaut awarded a penalty. Senijad Ibričić confidently performed the free kick.
Nine minutes later, Slovenian footballers scored the second goal and came forward in the general score. In a counter-attack, Ivan Firer masterfully delivered a pass to Lovro Bizjak. He sent the ball into the goal from close range.
Domžale entered the fourth qualifying round of the Europa League. The draw will take place today at noon in Nyon (France). Two teams will represent Slovenia. Maribor will also receive a new rival. On Wednesday, Maribor beat Icelandic Hafnarfjarðar with a total score of 2:0 on the sum of two matches.
