Employees of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics of the University of Maribor Receive Awards for the Best Teaching Practices

During a panel discussion, the employees from the Institute of Informatics of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics of the University of Maribor presented their experience in introducing gamification[*] while teaching integrated information solutions. The event was organised by the Centre for Support of Educational Process launched at the University of Maribor as part of the Didakt.UM project.

A presentation by Dr. Marjan Heričko was evaluated by the participants of the panel discussion as the most effective example of the introduction of information and communication technologies and modern teaching practices in pedagogics.

During the presentation, the two-year experience of introducing and using a commercial simulation game ERPsim was presented within the framework of the Integrated Information Solutions subject, which is taught within the Master’s study programme Informatics and Communication Technologies. The results show that the introduction and integrated use of SAP ERP by means of gamification is perfectly perceived by students, increases their interest and involvement in the learning process, as well as improves academic performance.

The employees of the Institute of Informatics also presented their gained experience at the Tenth International Conference DAMSS 2019 – Data Analysis Methods for Software Systems, where they received the Best Poster Award entitled Gamification for Engaging IT Students in the ERP Course: A Case Study.

Gamification is the introduction for application software and websites of approaches typical for computer games in non-game processes in order to attract users and consumers, as well as increase their involvement in the solution of applied problems and the use of products and services.
