Exploring Korean Culture Becomes Easier: the University of Ljubljana Opens the Department of Korean Studies
The Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Ljubljana (UL FDV) opens the Department of Korean Studies at the East Asia Research Centre (Korea Corner — East Asia Resource Library (EARL)). The Department of Korean Studies is located on the ground floor of the Faculty in the Central Library of Social Sciences named after Jože Goričar (ODKJG) and is available to all ODKJG readers.
Professor Zlatko Šabič, the Deputy Dean on International Cooperation of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, stressed the scientific and educational role of this department, which would introduce everyone to the Korean culture and become a bridge in mutual relationships between Slovenia and Korea. Professor Gregor Perko, the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Ljubljana (UL FF), who was also involved in the work of the East Asia RDE, emphasized the importance of the Days of Korean Studies. This event is held by the Department of Asian Studies, the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Ljubljana. Master Mirjam Kotar, the Director of the Central Library of Social Sciences named after Jože Goričar (ODKJG) and the EARL coordinator, would describe the volume and value of the transmitted literature and art. An open access to this information for the students and staff of the University of Ljubljana opens up new educational and scientific horizons.
After the official opening, two lectures were held on Korean companies in Central Europe and on the representation of POSCO (Europe Steel Distribution Centre) in Europe. Both lectures evoked great interest among the audience.
