Festive Events in Ljubljana, Maribor, Celje and Koper on the Eve of the New Year
The Ljubljana Drama Theatre (Ljubljanska Drama) invites to the performance based on the work of Anton Linhart “Županova Micka.” It will take place on the small stage of the theatre at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. A play “Wall, Lake” (by Dušan Jovanović) will be performed on the big stage at 7:00 p.m.
A rich programme of events is expected in the Cankar Culture Centre. The Gallusova Dvorana hall will feature a ballet performance “Romeo and Juliet”, and a trumpeter Ibrica Jusić will perform in the Cankar Club. In the Linhartova Dvorana hall, a theatre from Nova Gorica will present an operetta “Peter Kušter.” Cinema goers will be able to enjoy a movie “Ray of Love” starring Juliette Binoche. In the afternoon, the Cankar Gallery will feature an exhibition of tea, where it will be possible to taste teas prepared according to the recipes of Alma Karlin. On 1 January 2018, a New Year concert of the Slovenian Philharmonic Society orchestra and choir will take place at the same venue.
The Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor (SNG Maribor) will dedicate the last evening of the year to the art of opera and ballet. An opera by Giuseppe Verdi “Troubadour” will be performed in the grand hall at 6 p.m. At the same time, a musical comedy about the worst singer of all times “Glorious!” will be performed in the old hall. Nataša Matjašec Rošker will play the main role.
In the Ljubljana City Theatre, two performances will be shown. The big stage will host two productions of a musical performance Trač (at 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.), while the small stage will offer a comedy “All About Women” at 8:00 p.m.
The Ljubljana Opera House (Ljubljanska Opera) is preparing a gala night. A festive dinner will be held between the first and second acts of the ballet “Swan Lake.” After the New Year’s short speech, a dance programme with live music will start on the stage.
The Theatre in Celje will feature a comedy “The Men’s Den” by the Icelandic-German author Kristof Magnusson (at 7:00 p.m.) On New Year’s Eve, the Koper Theatre will offer its guests a musical and dance evening called “Silvestrski sijaj.” The ensemble CelloArt will perform. It includes eight famous cellists of the Slovenian Philharmonic Society orchestra. The soloists of the Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor ballet will join them on the stage.
