Gorenjska Banka Starts Direct Settlements with Iran
Gorenjska Banka starts direct settlements with Iran, which will facilitate the work of representative offices of Slovenian companies in Iran — Riko, Duol, Iskratel and Comita that opened a joint office in Tehran. The partner of Gorenjska Banka will be another Slovenian bank — SID Banka.
After implementation of the nuclear agreement and lifting of sanctions against Iran, the Slovenian embassy was reopened in Tehran, and Slovenian companies are showing increasing interest in this country. However, since there was no direct settlement system between the two states, the companies were forced to work through foreign banks of third countries.
Gorenjska Banka has already stated that their customers can now make direct payments and carry out documentary operations with Iran. The bank also noted that in cooperation with SID Banka they would insure loans for Iranian organizations, as well as conduct pre-export and export financing or “crediting” to Iranian customers. The latter operation is possible as an independent transaction performed by Gorenjska Banka with SID Banka as an insurer or as a joint financial transaction of the two banks.
