As part of the systematic work carried out by the Russian Embassy in Slovenia, to further deepen ties between higher educational institutions of the two countries, Viktor Grishin, the Rector of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, visited Slovenia on the initiative of the Russian Embassy.

The key issue of the Viktor Grishin’s programme during his stay in Slovenia was the negotiations with his Slovenian colleague Igor Papič, the Rector of the University of Ljubljana, which occupies a leading position in the countries of South-Eastern Europe and is one of the most prestigious universities in the world. Currently, about sixty students from Russia are studying at this university.

In the course of a considerable and involved exchange of views, the parties discussed the state and prospects for increasing cooperation between Russian higher educational institutions and the University of Ljubljana. It was stated that the University of Ljubljana successfully implements relevant projects and programmes for the exchange of teachers and students with Russian universities as part of agreements and memorandums signed in the academic field (there are currently 17 of them).

In order to expand ties between Russian universities and the University of Ljubljana, the parties signed a cooperation agreement between the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics and the University of Ljubljana developed with the active support of the Russian Embassy. Among other things, it provides for joint fundamental and applied research and mutual innovation activities; development of joint study programmes and their implementation; exchange of scientific, pedagogical and administrative workers; joint seminars, conferences, symposia, and much more.

It should be added that the parties agreed to hold the first working meeting of representatives of the two universities in Moscow at the beginning of September 2019 to work out and agree on practical steps to implement this agreement.
