Within the framework of the Days of Slovenian Tourism, awards were presented to the cities-winners of the national contest “My Land Is Wonderful and Hospitable” (in Slovene: Moja dežela – lepa in gostoljubna) in Portorož, on Monday, 8 October 2018.
Celje (among large cities), Nova Gorica (among medium-sized cities) and Slovenske Konjice (among small cities) received the highest awards. Kamp Danica (Bohinjska Bistrica) was recognized as the best camping, and Herbal Glamping Resort Ljubno was announced as the best glamping.
The best tourist destination is Kranjska Gora, the best resort is Podčetrtek, and the best travelling destination is Predjama. Kranj is the most beautiful and hospitable city in the country.
The most well-developed city centre is Gallusovo Nabrežje in the historic centre of Ljubljana, and Zagorje can boast the title of the most comfortable village centre.
MC Hostel Brežice is selected as the best hostel of the country.
When choosing the winners, the jury of the contest was guided by the following criteria: tourism offer and location of the object, quality of tourism offer, quality of life of local residents and guests, protection of natural and cultural heritage, environmental protection and hospitality. Streets and markets, gardens and parks, protection of natural heritage, communal and tourism infrastructure, etc. were evaluated.
The contest “My Land Is Wonderful and Hospitable” (in Slovene: Moja dežela – lepa in gostoljubna) is held under the auspices of the Tourism Union and under the patronage of the Slovenia’s President, Borut Pahor. The key objectives of the contest are the improvement and protection of the environment and the enhancement of the culture of environmental management.
