Hotpot with Celery (Šelinka)


  1. 1 celeriac (big),
  2. 2–3 potatoes (medium),
  3. 1 carrot,
  4. 100–150 g bacon,
  5. oil,
  6. 1 tbsp flour,
  7. broth,
  8. celery stalks,
  9. salt, pepper to taste.


Peel potatoes, cut into cubes and cook. Peel and grate celeriac.

Pour oil into a pan, add chopped bacon and grated celeriac. Peel carrot, cut it into strips, add to the rest of the ingredients and stew for 10–15 minutes.

Add a tablespoon of flour and a small amount of broth. Boil for another 1–2 minutes.

Mash potatoes. Add stewed mixture with celery, broth and cook for another 20–30 minutes.

Approximately 5 minutes before the end of cooking, add 2–3 tablespoons of celery stalks and salt & pepper to taste.
