Institute of Nutrition Awards the Most Innovative Food Products

The Institute of Nutrition awarded Slovenia’s the most innovative food products, which entered the market last year.

According to the Head of the Institute Igor Pravsta, these are the products that are rich in vitamins and trace elements and that are safe for consumers and for the environment. The purpose of the project is to promote innovative approaches in the development of food products and to diversify their commercial assortment.

Židan: Slovenian Means Healthy

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food of Slovenia Dejan Židan notes that the consumption of high-quality food products is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. Well-balanced nutrition, according to the Minister, significantly reduces the risk of various diseases.

As noted by the project manager from the Institute of Nutrition Anita Kušar, 47 companies expressed their desire to participate in the project, which is significantly less than in the first project held in 2015. At the same time, there is a decline in the share of ingredients that should be excluded because of their less useful nutritional properties.

The stated food products should be made by the Slovenian manufactures and be commercially available since the last year. Each manufacturer can register only one product. Consumers could also suggest as for the list of products. The selection was carried out by a group of experts from the Institute of Nutrition and was based on the list of nutrients in food products.
