The University of Ljubljana Obtained the International EST Accreditation
Within the framework of the interdisciplinary PhD training program “Humanities and Sociology” (Humanistika in družboslovje), the “Theory and Practice of Translation” course (at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Ljubljana) became part of the international educational network called “International Doctorate in Translation Studies”. This network exists within the European Society for Translation Studies (EST).
Thus, the “Theory and Practice of Translation” course (Prevodoslovje) became part of similar programs provided by the universities partners, such as Bar Ilan (Israel), Bogazici (Turkey), Aston (UK) and the universities of Antwerp, Vienna, Forli, Krakow, Leeds, and Geneva.
The international EST accreditation confirms the quality of education on PhD programs provided by the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Ljubljana and simplifies the collaboration with partners (also when choosing elective courses), thus helping to improve the efficiency of theory studies and of translation practice in the Doctorate.
The “Theory and Practice of Translation” PhD program is the first doctoral program at the University of Ljubljana, which was formed on the basis of the Bologna standards. In 2006, it was re-licensed. In 2009, the “Theory and Practice of Translation” program become part of a comprehensive program for training doctors of sciences in the field of humanities and sociology.
