Lipicanci na Univerzi in the Krumperk Centre of Horse Breeding (Domžale)
On 16 June, the Krumperk Horse Breeding Scientific Training Centre in Domžale for the sixth time will hold the traditional event called “Lipicanci na Univerzi”, which will involve 30 horses and 50 participants. The event will include performances by students, who have been honing the art of riding for a year, a group of riders representing the Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Ljubljana (UL BF), small pupils of the riding school for children, a cavalry unit of the Slovenian police, and other guests. The honorary guest of the event — the Kobilarna Lipica stud farm, as in past years, will represent officially the elite riding school.
This event is permeated with the spirit of the “Tale about the Lipizzaner” — the horses bred in Slovenia in the 16th–17th centuries in the village of Lipica. A famous Slovenian poet Edvard Kocbek devoted one of his poems to these beautiful animals:
“The Lippizaners are white mares, but the best is
when the day comes out of the night,
then the Lippizaners are the white and black buffoons,
the court fools of its Majesty,
The Lipicanci na Univerzi event is intended to appreciate the excellent work of the Krumperk Centre as well as to popularize the classical school of horse riding and the Lipizzaner breed.
Lipicanci na Univerzi will start on 16 June at 7:30 p.m. on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Ljubljana and will take place under the honorary patronage of the President of Slovenia Borut Pahor.
The event will be held in any weather.
