Ljubljana Celebrates the New Year on a Grand Scale
According to preliminary estimates of the organisers, about 55 thousand people gathered at various Ljubljana squares, where musical events took place. In total, about 100 thousand people took part in cultural and entertainment events dedicated to the New Year’s Eve. This is about the same as last year.
Nipke, Zlatko, Klemen Klemen, RecycleMan, as well as Happy Ol’ McWeasel performed on the capital’s French Revolution Square (Trg francoske revolucije). On the Town Square (Mestni trg), the audience was entertained by the melodies of Helena Blagne and Nuša Derenda. Kvintet Danila Lukana and FKK Band performed on the Pogačar Square (Pogačarjev trg).
The central event dedicated to ‘Silvestrovanje’—meeting of the New Year in the open are—took place on the Congress Square (Kongresni trg). Guests danced to the hits performed by Klara Jazbec, Jana Šušteršič and Leja Sirk, as well as the CoverLover and Grupa Vigor bands.
The Ledena Fantazija ice complex operated until 3:00 a.m. on the Congress Square (Kongresni trg). Some people celebrated the New Year skating.
A large number of foreign tourists come to celebrate the New Year in Ljubljana every year. Most foreign guests who met the New Year in Ljubljana came from Italy, Croatia, Austria, Serbia, Great Britain, Germany, USA, Spain and France.
Local hotels were almost packed with people. On the New Year’s Eve, the occupancy of Ljubljana hotels reached 92.7%. As reported in the local tourist information centre, some tourists celebrated the New Year in their rooms.
