Ljubljana Remains One of the World’s Most Bicycle Friendly Cities
Ljubljana has improved its position in the ranking of 20 most bicycle friendly cities in the world. According to the results of the Copenhagenize Bicycle Friendly Cities Index 2017, it jumped from the 13th (2015) to the 8th position. The first ten places in the ranking belong to Copenhagen, Utrecht, Amsterdam, Strasbourg, Malmo, Bordeaux, Antwerp, Ljubljana, Tokyo, and Berlin.
The Copenhagenize Bicycle Friendly Cities Index 2017 covers 136 cities around the world, which were evaluated according to 14 criteria. Evaluating Ljubljana, the authors of the ranking note that the title “Green Capital of Europe 2016” (Zelena prestolnica Evrope 2016—in Slovene) contributed to the development of cycling in the city, and the number of people who prefer this convenient and affordable type of public transport has grown significantly.
The capital of Slovenia has the appropriate infrastructure for cyclists and takes active measures to further popularize bicycles in the city. In particular, there is a growing number of places in Ljubljana where people can pedal with pleasure. The authors of the ranking note that in the coming years the share of residents and guests of the Slovenian capital who use a bicycle will grow to 20–30%.
The Copenhagenize Index has been publishing the Ranking of the World’s Bicycle Friendly Cities since 2011.
