Nature Communications Publishes a Scientific Article on Stem Cells by Janja Zupan from University of Ljubljana
Assistant Professor Janja Zupan (Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Ljubljana) has published an article on the Joint Morphogenetic Cells in Adult Mamalian Synovium in the prestigious scientific journal Nature Communications.
The publication is the result of her research in the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Research Group at the University of Aberdeen (Scotland). The Group identified a new population of stem cells in the synovial capsule of a knee joint. This is a rare population of stem cells in adult organisms, which is preserved from the period of embryonic development. Due to the cartilage’s ability to restore and form a new knee joint, the discovery has a great potential for regeneration of damaged tissues.
