Number of Austrian Tourists in Slovenia Keeps Growing
Last year, Austrian tourists in Slovenia made a record number of overnight stays—830,000.
This is largely because of the terrorist attacks in Europe, the Austrians prefer to visit countries with a high level of safety, and many at the same time choose neighbouring Slovenia.
One of the most beloved places in Austria is the transboundary Geopark Karavanke, which includes a number of well-known Slovenian tourist sites. The attendance of the Geopark Karavanke, which extends to 1,067 km2 along the territory of 14 Austrian and Slovenian municipalities, has been growing in recent years. The most popular objects are the karst caves “Obirske kapniške jame”, the Podzemlje Pece Museum and the Mount Peca (from the Austrian side).Last year, 126,000 tourists visited these sites.
