On Monday, 25 June 2018, the open-air swimming complex Mariborski otok, consisting of three pools of various diameters and depths, began operating in the settlement of Kamnica (suburbs of Maribor). The complex will work throughout the summer season.
On the eve of the complex opening, the minor repair and maintenance works were carried out. The fallen branches were removed, dry trees were cut, the adjacent territory was cleaned, paint was refreshed and the small pool was completely repaired.
The swimming complex is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. All visitors can use a free rent of sports equipment, attend a two-month running school, participate in activities for children and enjoy presentations of sports clubs and partnerships. Free admission.
The complex is located on an island in the floodplain of the Drava River and has been dating since 1930. The island hosting the swimming complex is of natural origin. Since 1992, it has the status of a natural monument. In the future, it is planned to hold tournaments in mini-football, beach volleyball, poker, chess and billiards on the island. This year, it will also host Games Without Borders – City Games, in which 1,500 people from 12 countries are expected to take part.
