Podravska Cycling Route to Be Expanded and Landscaped in Slovenia

This year, 10 kilometres of new bicycle lanes will be landscaped along the Slovenian part of the Podravska cycling route with a total length of 710 kilometres passing through the territory of four countries. Works on improvement have already begun in the Carinthia region. In the next four years, 15 million Euros will be allocated to complete the works. Besides, since the beginning of the summer school vacations, the tradition of Saturday cycling trains will be introduced, which will travel from Maribor to Bleiburg in Austria (Slovenian: Pliberk).

The Podravska cycling route mainly passes along the state and local highways, which, with relatively low traffic, are suitable only for experienced bicyclists. As noted by the head of the project for the Improvement of the Podravska Cycling Route, Uroš Rozman, in the future, it is planned to build bicycle lanes for children.

During the works on the renovation of the old track, a new marking was made, 450 signposts from the border with Austria to the border with Croatia were installed, and a website was run containing information on 70 tour operators working on the Podravska cycling route. This year, following the example of Austria, new information boards will be installed. In addition, Slovenske železnice plans to repair the railway station in the settlement of Ravne na Koroškem and the Podklanc bridge in Dravograd.
