President of Russia Awards Mayor of Ljubljana with the Order of Friendship

Vladimir Putin presented the award to Zoran Janković during the official reception in Moscow on 4 November. The Mayor of Ljubljana received the Order of Friendship for his contribution to strengthening Slovenian-Russian relations and protecting the memory of Russian and Soviet soldiers who died in Slovenian lands during the World Wars. The reception in honour of the state holiday of Russia—the Day of National Unity—took place in the Grand Kremlin Palace.

Putin awarded the nominees from six states. The awards were also presented to the Slovenia’s Minister of Labour Anja Kopač Mrak and representatives of Russia, Serbia, France, Spain and Turkey.

The Order of Friendship is considered one of the highest state awards in Russia. It is awarded for exceptional merits, which strengthen friendship between the country and other peoples.
