Basic information about the programme

  5. ECTS: 180 credits
    ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) - is an European system for translation and accumulation of points/results. This system was created for recording the academic work of students during an educational programme or course. One academic year corresponds to 60 ECTS points, which is about 1500-1800 study hours.

About the programme

Main programme components of the study programme and study requirements:

The study includes organised study work that is lectures, practical work, laboratory practice and other study forms carried out by higher education teachers and mentors. Students’ independent work is an important component of the programme including the study of literature, production of seminar and project works, participation in research, preparation of presentations and their performance, preparation and examination of knowledge, writing of the graduate thesis.

Some of the compulsive subjects: media and communication, foreign language in media, media technology and information science, photography and computer graphics, economics and organisation, management and organisation of media production, digital authoring, introduction to Media Law, methodology of research in social sciences, entrepreneurship and more.

Some of the elective subjects: contemporary political doctrines, organisational communication, recent history, European integrations, evaluation methods and more.

The whole programme includes 2,100 hours of organised forms of study and 3,300 hours of individual forms of work, which amounts to 5,400 hours of student workload. The annual workload per student is 1,800 hours.

Admission requirements

 

Admission to the first year of study:

  • • holders of the matriculation certificate (final secondary education examination),
  • • holders of the professional matriculation or final examination certificate in any secondary school programme,
  • • those who finished any full secondary school programme prior to 01. 06. 1995.

The Faculty can limit the enrolment if the number of applicants substantially exceeds the number of positions available.

Direct enrolment in the second year of the Media and Journalism study programme is allowed for those who have successfully concluded a post-secondary professional programme, adopted after 01.01.1994, if they meet the enrolment conditions of an individual professional higher education programme. Enrolment without bridging exams is allowed for the holders of a diploma in related programmes (in the social sciences, human science, business and administrative sciences and media-related technical fields). Other enrolled students shall pass the bridging exams.

Direct enrolment in the third year of the Media and Journalism study programme is allowed for:

  • a. holders of the diploma in a postsecondary study, adopted prior to 01. 01. 1994.
  • b. holders of a degree in any professional higher education programme.

Enrolment conditions are also met by holders of a degree in equivalent educational programme obtained in another country.

All candidates who hold a degree in study programmes other than those in the fields of the social sciences, business, human or technical sciences shall pass the following bridging exams: Media and Communication and Media Content Analysis. They are required to pass these bridging exams before they formally register the subject of their graduate thesis.

Employment prospects

The holder of the Bachelor Degree can get employed in the media of all kinds, printed as well as electronic, new media, in advertising agencies, public relations offices, economic and non-economic sectors, in video-production, publishing, in economic and non-economic research and development departments or centres, in design and computer design companies, in schools, in civil society sector, in international organisations etc.
