Professor of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Ljubljana Primož Ziherl Becomes the Teacher of the Year
Professor from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Ljubljana and a member of the Jožef Stefan Institute Primož Ziherl became the Teacher of the Year. The corresponding contest was organised and conducted by the Mlada Akademija Society, which includes PhD students and young doctors of sciences. In total, 49 teachers took part in the contest.
This news was a pleasant surprise for Primož Ziherl since he did not even know that he had been nominated for the contest. In addition to working at his native faculty, the professor helps his PhD students to conduct research abroad. His former PhD student Matej Krajnc, who last year defended his thesis under Ziherl’s leadership, nominated Primož Ziherl for the award.
Ziherl and Krajnc conduct research in the field of soft matter physics, which relates, for example, to the study of liquid crystals or rubber, as well as biophysical structures such as skin, cell membranes and body structures in insects. Today Matej Krajnc is a Doctor of Science and a member of the Princeton University (USA). Recently, he has also received an invitation to work at the University of Pennsylvania.
