Pupils from Basic Schools of Maribor Win 4 Medals at the International School Games in Ufa (RF)

In Ufa (Bashkortostan, Russia), the 54th International School Games were held with about 1,200 young athletes (aged 12 to 15 years) from 85 cities in 30 countries of the world. At the competition, Slovenia was represented by schoolchildren from Maribor, Slovenj Gradec, Velenje, Celje, Ravne na Koroškem, Šentilj, and Pesnica.

In total, 22 pupils from Maribor participated in the International School Games. For the first time in history, Maribor schoolchildren won medals in all three sports disciplines, in which they participated. They won 1 silver medal and 3 bronze medals.

Silver in the 800-metre race was won by Petja Klojčnik, and bronze – by Laura Črček, Eva Feltrin Kosec, Miha Uduč, and Jaka Borec (relay race, mixed style swimming). Another two bronze medals were won by judokas Dmitrij Čajnikov (weight category of up to 66 kilograms) and Neža Mesiček (weight category of up to 44 kilograms).
