Records of Cargo Traffic in the Slovenian Port of Luka Koper
In the nearest future, the Slovenian port of Luka Koper will focus on the investments in infrastructure development. The Port Chairman Dragomir Matić says that the year 2016 will result in the total volume of cargo traffic in Luka Koper exceeding 22 million tons, which is a historical figure. Increased freight necessitates the opening of a second railway branch.
However, this is not the end of the Luka Koper’s records. In the coming weeks, the figure of 700 thousand transported vehicles will be surpassed, and after arriving of the largest vessel that can carry up to 14 thousand TEU in the container terminal, this figure could rise up to 800 thousand containers.
Until 2020, a number of investment projects will be implemented in the port. There are currently three reservoirs introduced for the liquid cargo, and an additional railway line is built at the container terminal, which expanded the port capacity. The port officials introduce new technologies of hoists operation and prepare other projects for implementation.
In 2017, it is planned to extend the first pier, for which the port administration will need to get an environmental certificate and building permit.
