On Monday, 11 February 2019, the rectors of 30 universities from the countries of South-Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans signed the so-called Mostar Memorandum of Cooperation. The purpose of the document is to establish the interaction of European universities in scientific research, the development of joint lecture cycles and interaction between higher educational institutions and the labour market.

Among others the memorandum was signed by the rectors of the University of Ljubljana, the University of Maribor, and the private university Alma Mater (Maribor).

Dnevnik.ba quotes Dr. Igor Papič, the rector of the University of Ljubljana, who states that all universities in the region should define their own interests, and the duty of the university he leads is to help others integrate into various European projects.
