Referees from Slovenia First to Umpire the World Cup Matches

The FIFA Referees’ Committee has determined referees that will umpire matches of the World Cup in Russia. It should be noted that the competition will be held from 14 June to 15 July 2018.

The referees selected for work at the world’s largest football tournament include a 41-year-old resident of Koper Damir Skomina. He will be assisted by 32-year-old Jure Praprotnik from Ljubljana and 41-year-old Robert Vukan from Gornja Radgona. Thus, the Slovenian team of referees joined the ranks of the best and most qualified referees in the world.

Damir Skomina will be the first Slovenian referee in history to umpire matches of the world championship. Damir Skomina has been taking the position of a FIFA referee since 2003. He has been a member of the European list of elite referees for more than one year. Since the season 2011/2012, he has served many representative matches, for example the semifinals and quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League, as well as the finals of the European League 2017 Manchester United – Ajax.
