They have to apply in person abroad at the Slovak embassy/consulate competent for their country or at a respective foreign police office in Slovakia.
What is additionally required for students enrolling in secondary schools?
Additional requirement for obtaining a temporary residence permit for the purpose of studying in Slovakia for students in the age group 14-16 who plan to enroll in Slovakian high schools is that they must have a legal representative – a guardian – in the territory of Slovakia.
What is the period of validity of granted temporary residence permit?
A residence permit is issued for the expected time of the study, but not for more than 6 years. To extend the residence permit, it is necessary to re-submit the application with the required documentation.
The Immigration Police of Slovakia will easily change the status of a residence permit for a graduated student. Therefore, after graduation, the graduate can immediately apply for a residence permit for employment.
When can I apply for Slovak citizenship?
2.5 years after graduation from the Slovak University, applicants receive permanent residence in Slovakia. After 5 years of permanent residence it is possible to apply for Slovak citizenship.

Yes, Slovak law allows foreign students to work occasionally. Thus, a foreign student can partially cover their living expenses or hobbies while studying in Slovakia.
When is visa not required to enter Slovakia?
For all citizens of countries and territories that are members of the Schengen zone, of the EU or of EFTA and for third countries citizens which are on visa-free regime list. All other third countries nationals must apply for the visa.
