Russian and Slovenian Presidents, Vladimir Putin and Borut Pahor Stand for Strengthening of Economic Cooperation

The President of Slovenia Borut Pahor during the meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin stressed the need to resolve the situation in Ukraine. At the same time, Vladimir Putin voiced a desire to attract Russian companies to the projects in Slovenia, in particular to the construction of the second railway line Divača–Koper and the modernization of the Ljubljana central heating plant.

Economic Cooperation

The Slovenian President’s visit to Moscow gave a powerful impetus to the economy of both countries. The negotiations resulted in signing 14 agreements worth over 500 million euros between the Slovenian and Russian companies. Most of them are related to the production and processing of food products. For example, the Riko Company signed an agreement to build two plants for processing of grain and the Duol sold the technology of manufacturing inflatable greenhouses to Russian companies. The manufacturer of ovens for the Gostol Gopan bakeries will cooperate with the South Russian Food Company (Stavropol) and the Tula Bread-Baking Complex.

Other agreements are also aimed at the development of Russian industry. The Iskratel will participate in the modernization of the Rostelecom’s backbone network, the Bosio will manufacture furnaces for the forging and pressing equipment and the representatives of Elteza signed an agreement to transfer its technology.

Assistance in Food Production

The Pošta Slovenije and the Russian Post also signed an agreement on cooperation, and the University of Ljubljana signed memoranda with the Innopolis Federal University (Kazan) and the North Caucasus Federal University (Stavropol).

In the coming months, working meetings devoted to Slovenia’s assistance to Russia in the field of increasing the volume of food production will be held.

During the Borut Pahor’s visit to Moscow, Slovenia and Russia signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing, a memorandum on cooperation in the field of forestry and a program of joint activities in the field of tourism for the 2017–2018 biennium.
