Simon Marčič (the University of Maribor) Participates in the Dakar 2017 Rally Raid
This is the third time when Simon Marčič, an assistant from the Faculty of Energy Technology of the University of Maribor, takes part in the Dakar rally marathon, which this year takes place in the South American countries – Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay.
Marčič is the only representative of Slovenia at the rally, which started on 2 January 2017. The athletes will have to pass 12 stages with a total length of over 9,000 km during the 14 days of the tournament. The riders will spend several days at an altitude of 3,000 m above the sea level.
Simon Marčič competes in the most difficult category of Malles Moto, where the competition participants act without an assistant, so this is going to be a challenge for the Slovenian athlete. He finished his first race at the Dakar rally in 2014 ahead of schedule due to a broken wrist, and in 2016, despite a shoulder injury, he finished 79th in the overall standings. This year, Simon’s main aim is to reach the finish line and improve his last year’s result.
