Slovene Adrian Gomboc Is the Vice-Champion of Europe in Judo

Thanks to Adrian Gomboc, semi-finalist of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Slovenia won the 43rd medal at the European Championships in judo.

At the European Judo Championship in Warsaw, Slovenia won the first medal. Adrian Gomboc brought the victory to the team’s collection (category of up to 66 kg). In the finals, he lost in ippon to the titled Ukrainian judoka of Georgian origin Georgiy Zantaraya and won silver medal.

On the opening day of the tournament, a 22-year-old sportsman, a native of the village of Rakičan (the suburbs of Murska Sobota), a member of the Sankakjuj club (Celje) and a trainee of the coach Marjan Fabjan (a teacher of the martial arts school in the village of Lopati pri Celju), in the semifinals duel meet, beat with ippon the second in ranking participant of the championship — Azerbaijanian Niyata Shikalizade.
