Slovenes Tina Mrak and Veronika Macarol Are the European Champions in Sailing

Slovenian yachtswomen Tina Mrak and Veronika Macarol won the gold medal of the European Sailing Championships in the 470 Olympic Class, repeating their achievement in 2015.

In the final regatta of ten best crews, held on 24 May 2018, the athletes took the second place and convincingly won the title. The Slovenes had clinched the leadership in the overall standings the day before, and on the decisive day they further increased the gap with their rivals.

As a result, Tina Mrak and Veronika Macarol won 58 points. The second place was taken by the German women Friederike Löwe and Anna Markfort (78 points). The third place also belongs to German athletes Nadine Böm and Ann-Christin Goliass (82 points).

Thus, for now, Tina Mrak and Veronika Macarol have two gold medals of European championships, a bronze medal of the World Cup, and the sixth place in the Olympic Games. With such an arsenal of awards, yachtswomen are rightfully included in the elite of Slovenian sailing.
