Slovenian Athlete Adrian Gomboc Becomes the Champion of Europe in Judo
On Thursday, 26 April 2018, in Tel Aviv, Slovenian wrestler Adrian Gomboc became the European judo champion in the category of up to 66 kilograms.
In a decisive fight, the native of Prekmurje took the upper hand over the Italian Matteo Medves in a matter of minutes. On his way to the finals, the Slovenian judoka defeated the Ukrainian Gevorg Khachatryan, the Turk Sinan Sandal, the Israeli Tal Flicker and the Azerbaijani Orcan Shafarov.
Adrian Gomboc’s gold medal is the 45th award won by Slovenian judokas at European championships. In 2013, Rok Drakšič, the current coach of Adrian Gomboc, became the champion of Europe in judo among men.
