Slovenian Athletes Receive Three Gold and One Bronze Medals at the European Games in Minsk
Since 21 June 2019, the II European Games 2019 have been held in Minsk, the capital of Belarus.
On Sunday, 23 June 2019, a Slovene Maja Mihalinec won the gold medal in the 100-metre race at the European Games in Minsk. Her result is 11.36 seconds, which is 2 seconds less than her personal record.
The gold medal of Maja Mihalinec has become the second award for the national team of Slovenia. The day before, Maruša Štangar won the first award for Slovenia. She received a bronze medal in judo in the category of up to 48 kg. In a duel for the third place, she defeated Milica Nikolić from Serbia. The second gold medal for Slovenia was won by Klara Apotekar – the European judo champion in the category of up to 78 kg. On Monday, 24 June 2019, the Slovene defeated a female Dutch judoka Guusje Steenhuis in a decisive fight. It should be noted that judo competitions held as part of the European Games have the European Championship status.
The third gold medal at the European Games was brought to Slovenia by the archer Toja Ellison, who defeated a Russian athlete Natalia Avdeeva in compound archery in a tense final fight. The Russian was in the lead with a minimum advantage of one point, but at the end of the fifth series, the Slovene was able to catch up with her.
The European Games 2019 will be closed on the 30th of June.
