Slovenian Authorities Increase the Minimum Wage for Students and Strengthen Support for Subsidized Travels

During the meeting on 10 October 2019, the Finance Committee and the Committee on Infrastructure, Environment and Spatial Planning adopted bills aimed at improving the level of social protection for students.

Thus, the Finance Committee considered a bill to amend and supplement the Law on the Balance of Public Finances. Deputies adopted the amendment, which from 1 January 2020, will increase the minimum hourly wage rate for students from 4.89 EUR to 5.40 EUR gross. These legislative changes were supported by the Parliament on Tuesday, 22 October 2019.

In turn, the Committee on Infrastructure, Environment and Spatial Planning approved a bill amending the Law on Motor Vehicles. The new edition will provide free travel for students with disabilities, the possibility of travel for beneficiaries studying at the institutions for children and adolescents with special needs and who have not previously had the right to free travel.

In addition, subsidized tickets to training centres will be provided for schoolchildren and students eligible for subsidized travel and athlete status. The age limit for beneficiaries of subsidized travel will be cancelled.
