The Litostroj Power Company, a manufacturer of turbines and hydro mechanical equipment for hydroelectric power plants from around the world, supplied the Czech Republic with a pumping hydro turbine unit weighing 48 tons and over 4.5 meters in diameter and it was made of three castings. Sixty employees worked on its development for more than six months.
The stainless steel hydro turbine unit will be installed at the Dlouhé Stráně HPP, which is the most powerful hydroelectric power plant in Europe. The new unit will allow the hydroelectric power plant, located in the Moravia region on the Desna River, to generate more than 300 megawatts of electricity.
According to project manager Benjamin Černoš, the new hydro turbine unit is the fruit of Slovenian and Czech engineering and technical knowledge. He also noted that precise machining and welding of large and heavy steel parts required high qualification and vast experience from the Litostroj Power employees.
