Slovenian Farmer Grows a Tomato Weighing 1.2 Kilograms
Previously, Franc Mohorič from the village of Nova Vas pri Lescah (Upper Carniola region) managed to surprise himself and others by growing a tomato weighing 890 grams.
According to the farmer, the heavy fruit had two slightly lighter “neighbours”, each weighing more than 1 kg. Mohorič bought the seedlings in the village of Dvorska Vas. He cared for tomato plants the same way as for the rest of the vegetables in his market garden.
The farming in Slovenia is supported at the national level. Virtually all farmers with more than 1.5 hectares of land are eligible for state financial assistance.
The average annual subsidy for the maintenance of agricultural land is approximately 400 euro per 1 hectare. In the event of eco-standard projects, the subsidy will be about 800 euro per one hectare. Farmers may use these funds at their sole discretion.
